[A Gallery : Fictional archaeology] discovering you and me under the ground

Daniel Arsham, a New York based artist,  his work straddle art, architecture. He is famous on his sculp creations. Following his two previous solo shows at Galerie Perrotin, Paris and Hong Kong - "The Future is Always Now" and "#FUTUREARCHIVE" in 2014 and 2013 respectively, a new exhibition "Fictional Archaeology" is held at Galerie Perrotin Hong Kong again.

The concept "Fictional Archaeology" is inspired by his travels to Easter Island in 2010 where he observed archaeologists at work in a dig site. Though observing their works, he found that archaeology is a work of fiction. After the archaeologists pulled out the past artifacts out of the ground, they need to invent (at least a part but off course they are based on some history facts) a story to reconstruct a plausible truth for their discoveries. Yet who knows for certain what really happen?

Inspired by this experience, Daniel infused his works with the fictional dimension of archaeology. He made use of the geological materials that he has begun using four years ago like selenite, volcanic ash, chalk and sand, in order to convey the mysterious archaeological aura. He wants us to imagine that we are travel to the future and look back at his cast relics of the present from a dislocated, curious point of view, so all the statuses appear as if they had been buried in the ground for a number of years.

At the center of the gallery, a huge wall of chalkboard is placed there. A desk in front of it, depositing with numbers of casts that made out of chalk including body parts like hands and legs, telephones, camera, cassette tapes, joysticks, keyboards, calculators etc. which is a collaboration with the students of the School of Arts, Singapore (SOTA). Again, to response to the theme, visitors can pick up the casts to draw or write on the chalkboard expressing anything related to future and time. Consequently, the casts are damaged in a certain level and even destroyed, making they are almost as if an archaeologist had just unearthed them.

Wanna go to the future but afraid that it does not like what I expected.
Wanna change the pass but sadly it is impossible to come back on time

Truly enjoy this visit to the gallery, all the sculptures are so mysterious like they are unburied from the ground, but they are something we see in our present life so they give me a kind of weird yet fun feeling.  Moreover, the human and body parts sculptures are really sad in some ways. They are made with the same material and they are broken are damaged severely. Can you imagine, a man or a woman, or a hand or a leg, they were meat and blood and warm but then they were buried for hundred of years, now we discovered them, their face, fingers bodies are still there, some even holding each others hand, but they are now ashy, muddy, cold and in to parts, you know, in to parts! What if some of them are us in the future? Will we be like them, in to parts? And when the archaeologists try to combine those parts together, some are missing, just like those statuses hanging on the wall unbalanced with an empty space on their waists or between their hands and arms. At the same time, the archaeologists are guessing who are we, where we from, how we die or as Daniel said, creating a fiction about our life. However, nobody know what really happened with us. No matter what you did when we are alive, "now" we are like nothing. So it makes me feel pretty sad.

Anyways, it is just my own opinion. The exhibition is lasted from September 11 to October 10, 2015, open from 11 AM to 7 PM from Tuesday to Saturday. Address: 50 Connaught Road Central, 17th Floor, Hong Kong, +852 3758 2180, Make sure to check it out before it is ended!

Denim on denim on denim

Denim is the item that never outdated, and it can pairs with almost any kinds of outfit, including itself, denim on denim. But this time, I try to use three denim items to create a look, a denim jacket, ripped jeans, which both are must-have item for everybody, and a denim crop top. This crop top is my favorite item of the month. It is unusual to see a corp top made by denim so I bought it and I actually bought on sale. So here is the look and the item details:

Denim Jacket - Forever 21

Denim Crop Top - Stradivarius

Love the zipper on the back! It is like a decor of the top.

Sandals - Stradivarius

Ripped Jeans
this is an old jeans with no brand that I bought on the street
the shape and the cutting have already outdated
so I cut and rip it to renew it

For jeans especially ripped jeans, I strongly recommend TopShop.
in my opinion, they have the most trending
and most beautiful ripped jeans
If you want to buy jeans, you may consider TopShop
Although it may not be cheap, I promise you will love them

Thank you for reading
Hope you enjoy my sharing ^_^

Monkey King: Hero Is Back - a movie review

"A classic, rewrite the history of Chinese animation; a monkey, makes million of girls fell in love with."

After I watched the movie "Monkey King Hero is Back", my brain was filled with the handsome face of the Monkey King, so I draw a quick sketch.
P.S. The background music is the theme song of the Monkey King cartoon in 1998.
Over all 整體而言:
Once people mentioned Chinese animation, many of us don't expect a lot in a positive side. As a Hong Kong people, my childhood was fill with Disney, Dreamwork and Japanese animations, I don't expect a lot to this movie either. However, I have to say among all the animations I saw, Monkey King is definitely included into the top three. The CG effect many not be comparable to Japan and America, but for the content, it makes me laugh and cry.

Here is the trailer

[1.]The Picture 畫面

The CG technique is not mature enough. In the movie, the environment and views like those mountain, river and forest is really real but for the fighting scenes, it is still a bit stiff.

For the characters design, I personally really like Monkey King, Jiang Liuer and Hun Dun. Especially Hun Dun, the element of ancient dramatic Chinese mask from Sichuan Opera is included into the design of his face.

However, I think that the design of Pigsy and monsters is a bit off-track and old school. Especially the skin color of monsters, it is too bright and too green, but maybe it is because of the reason that the production of this animation lasted up to 8 years, the designs of the characters were according to the aesthetic feeling 8 years ago as producer Zhuo Xu said.

[2.] Splicing

If the full marks is 100, I will give 90 marks to the editing and splicing of this animation. The splicing is very smooth, the bursting point, crying point, intense point, one after another, integrates together. My feeling follow the splicing of the movie, up and down and up and down, surprises me again and again. However, in terms of the crying point at the end, it does make me tear a bit, if it can makes me tear a lot that would be perfect!

[3.] Music

Make use of the traditional Chinese music to coordinate with the fighting scenes is quite surprising, the tempo, rhythm, beat up, kick off, flawless!!!!

The theme song 《從前的我》, soft and touching, but I personally think that one of the OST "Brave Heart" is matchs the theme of the movie better. "Brave Heart" preforms the idea of being brave, freedom and the pursuit of dreams, it is a rock, full of infectant power.

Brave Heart"

Conclusion 總結:

This is a real Chinese animation movie that produced in China, takes 8 years of production, lack of funding and technology but full of hard work. People are hardworking, positive and never give up. I think that if the development of animation production is toward this direction, I believe that one day, Chinese animation will become the world animation.

P.S.
Actually, everything mentioned above is not my main view, there is only on thing I want to say, which is through watching this movie, I learn that love can beyond species, I fell in love with Monkey King, for real. That's why I watch it again in the Chinese Valentine's Day, Qixi.

I think I should write more movie review XD
Hope you enjoy my sharing~

TRAVEL WITH MYSLEF - Shen Zhen OCT Harbour

In the 14th of August, I had a small trip to Shen Zhen on my own. I went a place called OCT Harbour. Originally, I only planned to watch a movie "The monkey king, hero is back" but I was surprised by the environment there so I spent a long time to take a look in everywhere around OCT Harbour.

Thanks to the international designing team, OCT Harbour is one of the most unique coastal commercial project in China: It has the first international waterfront shopping complex, the first high-end seaside dinning and entertainment area, the first large-scale multimedia water show theatre, the first five-star flagship cinema etc.  All in all, you can have so much fun here, shopping, eating, watching movie, OH! they also have exhibitions, music festival, carnival etc. Many different kinds of large-scale events. The most important thing is that the environment is so clean, quite, green and spaceship, I would definitely visit here again.

This is the IMAX cinema, quite big inside, it has three floors.
There are a few cafes next to it for you to have a tea before the movie,
but I have to say the foods in those cafes are quite expensive in price.

Ticket is gotten (> O <)
movie starts at 3pm, and I have 2 hours to have a lunch

As I said it is quite expensive to eat next to the cinema,
so I walk into the centre area of OCT Harbour to search for restaurant.

The restaurants are built on the both sides of the river.
The riverbanks are connected by these beautiful traditional Chinese bridge.

[OODT]
Shirt: Global Work
Pants: Uniqlo
Shoes: Stradivarius

Finally, I choose this cafe, Lady 7 cafe.
1st: The food is not so expansive, around RMB 30-50
2nd: The door at the entrance is beautiful (What kind of reason is it?)
3rd: All the waitresses dress up as maids, while all the waiter, of course they dress up as butlers

As I mentioned that the entrance is very beautiful,
but inside is even more beautiful!!!!!!
I feel like I'm in a Barbie House!!!!!!!

Not only the internal design, the chairs, desks etc. are beautiful,
but also the tableware, cups and dishes!!!!!!!

I ordered Lasagna as my main dish.

And bailey coffee with raspberry cookies as dessert.

This cafe is mainly for desserts. It doesn't have so many main courses to choose
but a lot of drinks and desserts.

After I walk around and have a lunch, it is time for the movie.

"The monkey king, hero is back" is a animation that
designed, created and produced in China.
I am totally surprised by how wonderful this movie is,
including the CG effect, story line, music effect etc.
I think I need to write a review and I am going to watch it again!

After the movie, I take a walk in this beautiful harbour.

Here is where the water show performs at night, but sadly I need to work the next day
so I have to go, or else I must stay and enjoy the show, maybe next time.

Hope you enjoy my sharing of this little trip to Shen Zhen.
I will continue explore and discover different places to visit XD

ACGHK - I was totally turned into a freak

ACGHK is the Hong Kong Animation, Comics and Game Expo which is an annual exposition held in summer holiday (July ~ August) in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Except from a wide range of exhibitors like animations and comics, online games, TV games, toys...etc. This year, we have a huge comic market promoting doujinshi culture, allows local creators of doujinshi to express their own creations and designs like comics and animations and comics related products. Of course, cosplay is one of the main elements of ACGHK.

The ticket for ACGHK is only $35 and it allows you to visit the main exposition and the comic market. This year, ACGHK hold from 2015/7/24 to 28, while the comic market only lasted from 7/25 to 26 and there is a hall for cosplayers to stay, dress-up and make-up which is free for a visit. I visited there in 7/26 and 7/28. I bought a ticket in 7/26, but I didn't in 7/28. Why did I go there twice? Why didn't I buy ticket in the second day? The story is like that...

In 7/26, I bought a ticket, visit the main exposition and the comic market. I stayed in the hall of the main exposition for around 4 hours. I lined up in many exhibitors searching for the comics and products I wanted. These are what I bought.

I bought a Free! eyes-mask. Honestly, I'm not a good "sleeper", I need complete dark for sleeping and I discovered that my old eyes-mask was a children side and it is always too tight for my head so I want a new one.

Then, you can see a Tokyo Ghoul file. This is the only Tokyo Ghoul file I can found in the hall. I only found one exhibitor sold Tokyo Ghoul related products and most of them were sold out which was soooooo sad.

This stamp was found in the comic market which was a product created by a local creators of doujinshi.

Overall, not only Tokyo Ghoul, many of the famous comics and animations couldn't be found in the expo which was quite a disadvantage. Maybe due to many of the exhibitors sold online/TV games and toys. However, for people who like games are pretty good. Therefore, for a comics lover, comparing with the main expo, I enjoy the comic market better.

I stayed in the main hall for 4 hours as I mentioned and I visit the comic market for 2 hours and then I left. Remember, cosplay is one of the main elements of ACGHK, I HAD NOT TAKEN ANY PHOTO WITH THE COSPLAYERS !!!! I was very depressed so I went to Exhibition Center again in 7/28 which was the last day. As I mentioned, the hall of cosplayers is free for a visit!!! Therefore, I went there and took a lot of photos, HA HA HA HA! Let's take a look XDXD.

This guy is so funny, he really act like his head can shoot something XD
um...I think his partner is missing, you know, the one with an alarm on his head.

He is the cutest Kaonashi I have ever seen

This costume really WOW my mind, look at those tentacles...wow~

Actually, this guy was pretty shy when I asked for taking a picture with him
but his make-up and overall look was pretty well
and he do looks like Kakashi <3

Finally, my favorite! Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul!
His costume also made me WOW.
He made those centipede like "cell" that Kaneki owns when he goes ballistic.

I really enjoy this comic festival, hope you enjoy my sharing and thank you for your reading ^3^
